Helping to Rid the World of Wordy PowerPoint Presentations

On a weekend in late July, Goodwill Industries International (GII) hosted their annual conference for marketing and communications professionals in Colorado Springs. Mandy Mikulencak, a Marketing and Communications Specialist for GII, explained that most of these professionals have to "do it all" at their agencies including preparing PowerPoint presentations. Just one problem: GII found that many of the professionals were self-taught and tended to overload their presentations with too much text and too much clipart.

Mandy began to plan a pre-conference workshop on how to prepare effective presentations. After doing a bit of internet research, she learned that T4T worked in the Colorado Springs area and it seemed to be a perfect fit. Mandy shared, "After a few short conversations, T4T had a terrific presenter lined up along with a course outline we could share in advance of the conference."

Yvonne Parker was that "terrific" volunteer who facilitated the session with GII. She has taught several classes with T4T in the past. Declaring the session a success, Yvonne said, "The session went really well. I only wish that we could have gone even more in-depth with the participants!"

Staff from the main office of GII also attended the training and came away with ideas for using PowerPoint more effectively. "It makes the communications department extremely happy as we review all presentations for the 100+ staff at our office," Mandy said.

Teaming for Technology is always interested in partnering in new and exciting ways with nonprofit organizations along the Front Range. Please contact T4T's new Program Director, Andy Lubansky, for more information.
